My First 5K Experience
Between 80 degree days, 40 degree nights, a weather forecast that included thunder and hail storms, and some impromptu tornadoes- the weather has been absolutely crazy around here!
This was definitely a three-day weekend to remember.
Tornadoes aside, one good thing about this weekend was the fact that I finished my first 5K!! No- it’s not the one that I’m supposed to be training for (that one I plan to run), but this one was an exciting and informative adventure around the best sites in downtown San Antonio- and it was great.
This weekend, I learned about and saw more of the city than I have in the past four years of living in San Antonio. I visited sites I hadn’t yet been to, Found out some interesting facts, and got some much needed time with my husband (BONUS!).
This 5k tour is definitely something I would recommend for residents and visitors, of all abilities, and just had to let you guys know about it…
River City Run SA 5K
I was not compensated for this post, but did receive a free 5K tour. I was not asked to review the services offered by River City Run SA on my blog, but found it beneficial and necessary to communicate my story to my audience. All opinions are my own.
River City Run SA is a small, locally-owned company, formed by a husband and wife, who set out to provide greater insight on the history of San Antonio through an enjoyable 5K experience.
They offer weekly running or walking tours throughout the downtown area. A knowledgeable tour guide accompanies you on your walk/run, hitting up major landmarks and points of interest on the way, while providing you with some history, facts, and fun information.
You start off at the Alamo- a landmark recognized around the world, and perhaps most noted in Texas. From there, you hit up 16 stops on the tour- to include La Villita, the Marketplace, the Bexar County Courthouse, and Hemisphere Park (to name a few).
This 5k takes about an hour and a half to complete and starts off early enough to avoid the dreaded San Antonio sun. It’s a great way for visitors and residents alike, to learn more about the city while getting a good run/walk in for the day. Runners/walkers of all abilities are welcome to participate and strollers are welcome, too.
River City Run SA offers weekly 5k tours, private tours, corporate tours, and have recently added 10K’s to the mix (for those of you more experienced runners). So if you’re looking for a great way to get out and about, an event for your next gathering, occasion, or family reunion- this experience is definitely something to consider.
My 1st 5K Experience
I had never heard of this kind of service, and absolutely LOVED it. It was fun to learn about San Antonio, visit all the pertinent landmarks, and get fun facts about the city. It eased my stress about my upcoming 5k, because I was able to gauge the distance and time. It was also a great morning date with my husband. Afterward, we celebrated with a nice brunch downtown- so you can also add this to your list of date ideas.
I’ll definitely be back for the run and love that I can bring the kiddos with me.
Check out @RiverCityRunSA for a 5K experience unlike any other in #San Antonio!! Share on XI encourage you to check them out at River City Run SA . They are nice, knowledgeable, and reasonably priced. It could make a great time with family, friends or loved ones while adding to your fitness routine. Furthermore, it exposes you to all the wonderful things that San Antonio has to offer. So get out there and experience it for yourself!!

This soinds like such a fun idea! I would for sure put that on our agenda. 💕
It really was a great time. I learned so much (and snuck a date in, too!). Thanks so much for stopping by!
Looks like you had a fun time, your pictures are great! I had no idea about this service in San Antonio. I may need to send my relatives on it and then I won’t have to play tour guide!
Thanks so much, Crystal! It was a lot of fun and you’re right- it’s a great way for visitors to learn about the city. I love having visitors, but I cannot tell you how many times I’ve been to the Alamo… (Too many to count!)
