Wine of the Week: Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon Review
Welcome to Wine of the Week, where we explore affordable and accessible wines in PLAIN TERMS! Before we start, I just wanted to let you know that next week, a SPECIAL THANKSGIVING EDITION of Wine of the Week will be posted on Tuesday, November 22nd in order to get you ready for the holiday!
We’ll be exploring some of the “nicer” wines to bring your Thanksgiving Host/Hostess as a gift (and if you’re the one hosting, think of it as a special treat for yourself.) Can’t wait until next week!!
In the meantime, the following review is one that I found quite surprising. If you’ve ever tried it, please let me know what you thought in the comments below. Here’s what I thought:
In this 4th edition of Wine and Lavender’s segment, Wine of the Week (WOTW), we will explore:
Two Vines Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 (California)
HEB Price: $7.15 at HEB (was on sale for $6.29)
Sight: This wine has that beautiful “deep red” coloring that I love!!
Smell: The best words to describe the smell of this wine are: soft, sweet and colorful. Make of that what you will, I’m pretty excited to try this wine- it smells pretty good to me!
Taste/First Impression: My first sip was interesting. It seemed to have a very light “sweetness” to it, which turned into “tart” and then trailed off ever so smoothly. This wine was SO soft- not dull and not too tart. It could be described as, “velvety with a smooth finish”. If you’d like a simple comparison, I’d say that Two Vines Cabernet tasted like a sip of a full-bodied and concentrated cranberry juice with a shot of water. Hahaha
After taste: The aftertaste is perfect- it has a soft start and tart finish that smooths out. No nose-hair-burning fumes and no dull or nasty aftertaste that lingers like an unwelcomed house guest.
The Experience: So far, I really like this wine! The taste is soft and subtle. The after taste does not linger and is perfect. I’m half a glass in and feeling relaxed.
The Next Day: I was perfectly fine and ready to go the next day. No complaints here whatsoever.
The Label: “Our Cabernet Sauvignon features aromas of strawberry, cherry, and cola while identical flavors give way to the silky, soft palate that culminates in a long, velvety finish.”
I’m not sure I can agree with the “cola” part, but everything else seems to be on point. I was very pleasantly surprised with this wine. It would be great for a get-together with friends and/or at a party, because it is so “upbeat”.
While I don’t normally comment on the look of the label, I felt it necessary to mention. At first glance, I thought the label was ugly and was convinced (based on label and price) that this would be a horrible wine. However, I decided to “take one for the team” anyway and ended up pleasantly surprised. Just goes to show- never judge a wine by its label.
Alc.: 13.5% by Vol. 750 ML
Repeat: It was a great value for the price and I was pleasantly surprised by this delicious wine. I definitely plan to buy me some more!! (Hopefully, it’s still on sale.)
Rating: I would give this wine a 3 1/2.
