Win Free Wine on National Drink Wine Day!

Imagine a day dedicated to drinking wine.

Now, I know what you’re thinking- there is a day for that: Wednesday… and then there’s Friday, oh and Saturday, too. Yes- those are all very good wine-drinking days, but did you know that on the official calendar of National Days, wine-drinking has a spot?

Well it does- and this year National Wine Drinking Day is scheduled for Saturday, February 18th!! Are you as excited as I am? Well, you will be when you see what I have to offer you in celebration of this lovely day. But first, let’s find out what this day is all about…

National Drink Wine Day

Now, I don’t ever remember having seen so many of these National (insert random thing here) Days, but I will not complain about this one. This one has a special place in my heart (and glass, and subsequently, my tummy). Social media has done a great job of spreading the word on the National Days, and I want to make sure that this particular day gets all the love and attention it deserves. So I decided to dig a little deeper…

What is this day all about and why has it come to be? Do you even care, or are you just happy to participate because… well, wine is delicious? I was hoping to get some interesting National Drink Wine Day facts for you to use at your get together, but guess what?

There is little to NO information on the origination of this day.

Why? Well, I’m guessing that people just don’t need a reason to celebrate it. Wine is delicious, fun, and has certain health benefits with responsible consumption. So instead, I found you some facts on the health benefits of wine so that you can be knowledgeable while sipping your vino with friends this weekend…

Health Benefits of Wine

Red Wine is good for your heart.
“Red wine may contain more substances in addition to alcohol that could prevent blood clots, relax blood vessel walls, and prevent the oxidation of low-density lipoprotein (LDL, “bad” cholesterol), a key early step in the formation of cholesterol-filled plaque.” Harvard

Red Wine has anti-aging properties.
“…the properties of a chemical present in red wine, known as resveratrol, does indeed have anti-aging properties.” Medical News Today

Red Wine can help regulate your weight.
“…ellargic acids inside a vineyard’s grapes have the power to delay the growth of fat cells and slow the development of new ones.” Medical Daily

Red Wine is an immune booster.
“The antioxidants in your glass of wine boost your immune system, reducing your risk of common colds by as much as 40%. This is due to the fact that antioxidants fight infection, prevent cellular damage, and eliminate free radicals.” Health Ambition

Red Wine reduces the risk of Diabetes.
“Moderate drinkers have 30 percent less risk than nondrinkers of developing type 2 diabetes. Source: research on 369,862 individuals studied over an average of 12 years each, at Amsterdam’s VU University Medical Center, published in Diabetes Care, 2005.” Food and Wine

White Wine also helps in preventing certain cancers.
“In 2002, researchers at the University at Buffalo School of Medicine found that moderate lifelong white wine consumption improves lung health. In 2010 University of Wisconsin researchers found that white wine protects cells from breast cancer equally well compared with red wine.” Livestrong

Champagne can help to keep you mentally agile. “A study conducted at the University of Reading found that drinking three glasses of champagne per week can protect your brain from dementia and prevent memory loss.” Alziehmers.net

So there you have it. A few facts to throw at your wine-loving friends while you celebrate this National Day.

BUT WAIT!

I have something else for you that’s sure to get you all tingly and excited on National Drink Wine Day… WINE!! That’s right! I’ve teamed up with Love More Live Blessed Blog and Wine Awesomeness to bring my wine lovers a Giveaway they’re sure to love… FREE WINE.

Just so you know… I was in no way compensated for this post. My opinions are my own.

Wine Awesomeness

Wine Awesomeness, a wine subscription service, is happy to give one of our readers a FREE box of Wine!

National Drink Wine Day

Three bottles of delectable wine delivered to your doorstep, FOR FREE!

They’re very proud of their wine selections/service and wanted to get the word out, so here’s some information about them for your reading pleasure:

What’s included: Their subscription service includes a choice of 3 reds, 3 whites, or a combo of both for $45 per month, or if you really love wine, they also have a 6 bottle selection for $75. Let’s think about this for a minute. This is a pretty good deal- if you consider the price of the wine, shipping, accessibility to wines that you would otherwise have a hard time finding, and the fact that you never have to leave your home for them.

The box also comes with a wealth of information, to include: tasting notes, educational content, recipes, playlists, pairings, behind the scenes editorial and DIY articles, if you are looking to become more knowledgeable about your wine.

How the wines are chosen: They go by monthly themes. Whether it’s a showcase of area-specific wines, wines made by a certain group, or seasonal preferences, their wines are carefully selected by a curatorial team (led by a Food & Wine Sommelier of the Year).

Membership: They understand that you may have a change of heart, or palate, and/or commitment issues, so your membership can be easily changed, skipped and/or deactivated at any time.

It also comes backed by a pretty bold guarantee: “At Wine Awesomeness we love a good deal as much as we love hot wings and vinho verde. We’re so confident in the value of our product that we’ll give you a free year of wine if you can recreate our box for less. Good luck!”

Gifts: If you know wine-lover who would love this service, they also have gift subscription options, gift cards, and swag, too.

I haven’t tried their wines, yet- but Crystal from Love More Live Blessed has, and she has had a lot of good things to say about them! Check out her post here.

    • Hey Jenna!! Thanks for stopping by! I know what you mean about not being able to choose just one. LOL National Drink Wine Day should be fun!!!

  • Fun post! My favorite drink is Sparkling Wine – even better is Champagne but I’ll settle for sparkling wine. But I do enjoy a nice glass of Sanford Sauv Blanc or Byron Chardonnay.

    • Thanks for stopping by, Mary Grace!! Those are all good selections. I tend to gravitate to whites and sparkling wines more during the summer months, and stick to my reds during the winter. Maybe it’s just that I haven’t given whites or sparkling wines a fair chance? I guess the only solution to that is to drink more… LOL

  • I plan to celebrate with a nice glass of Pinot Noir from Oregon or California or perhaps a Pinot Grigio. I’ll have to see where my mood and food takes me that day. Cheers!

    • Hey Lynn! That sounds like a wonderful way to celebrate, and I love how you added “mood and food” in there- both very important factors!! Thanks for stopping by.

    • Thanks for stopping by, Natasha!! Now that’s one that I have yet to review on the blog…do you have any brands that you particularly love?
