Spending time together and sharing experiences is what this season is all about, and there’s no better way to do that than by visiting a family tradition favorite- The Nutcracker ballet.

A Popular Family Tradition

From George Balanchine’s first production of The Nutcracker at the New York City Ballet in 1954, this timeless classic has become an annual holiday tradition for millions of people throughout the nation- and for good reason! It’s a beautiful production featuring immensely talented dancers, perfectly choreographed scenes, gorgeous costumes, and exciting characters, in a wonderful storyline.

The Show

The Nutcracker is a beloved tale about a young girl, her Nutcracker and their adventure- filled with magic, mystery, excitement, and love. Through breathtaking movement and music, each audience member is whisked away to a magical land where anything is possible and love conquers all. It encompasses the true spirit of the holiday season, and it’s no wonder that it’s a long-standing family favorite.

Interested in seeing the show? The Nutcracker is coming to the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio December 16th-18th and it’s sure to be a wonderful family event! In addition to watching the performance, there will be holiday photo opportunities with their life-sized Nutcracker Doll.  You’ll also be able to browse the selection of souvenirs and merchandise they have available whose proceeds benefit the nonprofit mission of San Antonio Metropolitan Ballet!

Have little ones? While it’s not prohibited to buy a ticket for a child under the age of six, it is not recommended, due to the length of the performance (it is a two-hour event). This show is great for families with children aged six and older or it can be enjoyed by couples looking to have a great date night.

Mejia Ballet International

This production of The Nutcracker is being performed by Mejia Ballet International. Choreographed and directed by Paul Mejia, founder of Mejia Ballet International and former principal dancer under George Balanchine at New York City Ballet, this show is sure to be a delight! The amazing cast of this production includes award-winning, Prima Ballerina, Olga Pavlova, Marina Goshko, Andrey Prikhodko, Yevgeni Anfinogenov, and students from the San Antonio Metropolitan Classical Ballet.
